This gallery depicts the final screenshots from our submission for the 48 Hour Challenge that CCS holds every year. The competition starts out with teams of up to 4 people who are all given the same prompt, in this case “Time Constraint”. They are then tasked to create an animation, a movie, or a video game within the following 48 hours. Three other student and myself set out to create a small game centered around the fact that the character had crash landed on an alien planet that was completely submerged. The player was required to make their way to the orange homing beacon in the distance before the rescue ship arrived, or their limited supply of oxygen ran out. We designed and pumped out assets and a playable character, as well as a layout for the path that the player would have to venture through. My role was to program the playable character, incorporate some assorted UI elements to indicate the progression of oxygen, as well as create particle effects that gave the game a bit more depth. I was also tasked with taking the layout that our team had agreed on, and place the many assets needed to create what you see below. While we were not the winners in the end, the experience was full of laughs, incredible creativity, and a pinch of panic as the final hours set in.
